The One Sentance:
A disinherited son of a hotel owner fights the rise of evil in a crumbling port town.
The Paragraph:
Background and setup: Lowermouth is a decaying and isolated port town dominated psychologically by an underpinning and subliminal presence of evil, and physically by a giant hotel.
Disaster 1: The hotel's owner dies, unexpectedly leaving it to a Belgian cousin (Maes), and the protagonist (Michael) is left suddenly disinherited, and forced to the fringes of the town.
Disaster 2: Town's folk are in shock, many expecting Michael to 'do something'. Michael retreats into isolation until persuaded otherwise by a disaster.
Disaster 3: Michael acts, the town rises, but it is a fiasco. Commit, or not commit. Hiding in the marsh, Michael discovers his true grit.
The End: Raid, help from unexpected quarters, Hotel burned. X free, but the subliminal presence is still there. Michael organises those who wish to leave, to leave, but most remain behind - they are too far gone.
